Home : Matariki Pou
Matariki is conceptualised at this site through a matriarchal head-dress comprised of Matariki’s formidable celestial children surrounding the mother star. This pou is an expression of the importance of intergenerational bonds that reinforce an individual’s moral, ethical, and spiritual compass throughout their lives. The pou pays homage to the mother in all cultures across the globe, and also draws our attention to the island of Matariki that you can see from this site, that protects and shelters this peaceful bay.
Together with James York and Keri Whaitiri, we combined our expertise to design and build a resilient steel sculpture that will withstand diverse weather conditions for countless years.
